3 to 5 months for wedding pictures???

We are coming off our busiest wedding season ever, and we appreciate you all for that! It's been fun getting to know everyone better, and we've had a blast creating a ton of images we're very proud of!

Although we were tied up for nearly a month in the hospital due to some pregnancy complications and our baby's stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we have spent the past few weeks working ourselves silly to stay on top of our wedding editing! We have gotten a few e mails over the past week or two from people who were wondering why there was a 5-month turnaround on their wedding pictures. We decided now would be a great time to shed some light on the editing process!

We have never claimed to be the fastest in the business. We only claim to be the best! Between our two wedding companies, "The Hudson" and "Bliss!," Kori, Jason and the associates are shooting over 100 events per year! This is possible because our clients are so happy with the quality of our work. Part of the reason for that quality is that all of the editing, production and artwork is done 100% by Jason and Kori. That means that every order you place online is handled directly by one of us. This also means that for those of you that have retouched pictures included in your package, every image you get was opened up individually by either Jason or Kori and made to look exactly the way we saw it when we took it.

Yes, a lot of other photographers in the country can get wedding prints and discs out quicker than us. There are also a lot of photographers out there who are cheaper than us. We live in a world with a fast food mentality, but when you book us, you aren't ordering fast food, you're ordering 5-star steak dinner! : ) We want you to get every penny of your money's worth with your wedding pictures, so we take our time with them to make sure they are something we are proud of before we send them out.

You will have these pictures the rest of your life. We know that your grandchildren will be looking at these pictures some day, and we want you to be as proud to show them off then as we are to show them off now. When you think about it like that, 3-5 months is not so long to wait for something you are going to have for the rest of your life!

We could rush your wedding pictures, pass them off to high-school students to do the artwork on them, etc., but your pictures would look sloppy. That wouldn't make you happy, and it sure wouldn't make us happy! That isn't how we've stayed the busiest wedding photographers in Arkansas for the past 11 years. We've done that by taking the time required to work on every one of your pictures by hand, one-by-one, spending a few months to do so, if that's what it takes. We know it's hard to wait, because you're so excited about getting your pictures, but trust us, you will be glad you did! Our joke is "we're working as slow as we can" in order to give you the best pictures possible.

I want to give Kori a big pat on the back too... She's been such a trooper! Most pregnant women in the US get maternity leave, but she has been in the office almost every day since Norah came home, working as hard as she can to get your weddings out even while she nurses and cares for our new baby. Good job, Kori!

To update you, all of Kori's wedding through October 10 have been retouched and sent to the lab for printing. They are either at the lab or have already been sent to you if you've emailed us your mailing address. Jason's weddings have been printed through mid-August. Late August and early September weddings are up on our computers now, being retouched. Once we are all caught up retouching and shipping prints and discs and fulfilling of of our holiday print orders, we will be able to look at our coffee table book orders, probably after the first of the year.

Thanks for your understanding that you are getting a quality product. We really appreciate each and every one of you and also your referrals - it's how we feed our family!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just wanted to say a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We hope you had a safe and happy holiday. Kori and I went down to Little Rock on Turkey Day to hang with the family.

Baby Norah turned 9 weeks old on Thanksgiving Day. Here she is being held by her 91-year-old Great-Grandfather

She spent some good time hanging out with mommy...

and Norah with oldest sibling, Amelia...

We always love taking pictures of our 2-year-old twin nephews, Luke and Levi.

We told Levi that this was his Uncle Tree, and he went up and gave Uncle Tree a big hug and kiss.

Its fun to mess with little kids! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Congrats to the following couples who have recently secured us to photograph their big day!

Amanda & Roger just booked us for their wedding on December 6, 2008.

And, in the "planning ahead" department, Ashley & Justin booked us for their wedding on June 13, 2009.

Also congrats to Christy & John, planning an October 10, 2009 wedding.

Contest Winner!

Congrats to Jason who placed in the "Top Ten" in a recent contest of the Wedding Photojournalist Association, a worldwide organization of thousands of forward-thinking wedding photographers. The contest category this time was "Trash the Dress." The winning image was taken during a bridal session for this bride on the day after her wedding in Las Vegas. Can you name the bride??

Tulsa Garden Center

Jason was at the Tulsa Garden Center last month to photograph Ashley's bridal fashion images. There have been hundreds of bridal sessions taken at this location, but we try and come away with something a little different each time.

Sleepy baby!

We are very lucky that Norah is such a good baby... It's giving us a chance to actually get some work done! Here she is sleeping peacefully this afternoon. We couldn't resist sneaking a couple of shots in before we holed up in the office for some good, quality Photoshop time.

Polaroids

We have a vintage Polaroid camera, produced only in 1968 and 1969. As the fall colors hit their peak here in NW Arkansas; thought this would be a good time to make some pictures with this camera.

And one taken with some Black and White Polaroid film we found online:

For the second year in a row, Jason's 91-year-old "Pap-Pa" has won first place in the Halloween Costume Contest at his retirement home. We are so proud.

New Booking!

Congrats to Amy and David who just booked Kori to photograph their wedding on January 3, 2009, in Fayetteville!

Morning Storm

This picture was taken Halloween morning at Barrett's pre-school here in Fayetteville. A thunderstorm was approaching, and we think its cool how the Cross appears to be cutting through the dark clouds

Sunset

We had a beautiful sunset last night in Fayetteville. These were taken a local site called "The Cross" on Mount Sequoyah.

Angels and Spiders!

Norah is an angel, but for Halloween, she really was an angel! Kori found a cute angel costume at 3 Monkeys, but it was a size 12 months, which was going to be way too big for tiny Norah... She took that one apart and turned it into this amazing costume! She's very crafty!

Here are our twin nephews Luke and Levi. They are spiders, but they are too cute to be scary!

Here's baby Norah with "the" Mr. Hudson.

And the angel with Grandjo.

Kara + Scott!

Between the heat of summer and the cold of winter, we always get a ton of calls for engagement pictures. Here are some faves from Kara and Scott's session:

Lindy + Clifton

Lindy and Clifton were married a couple of years ago, but since they had "traditional" pictures taken at the wedding, they wanted some modern pictures taken of just the two of them.

Kori published in The Knot!

Kori has had one of her weddings (Lindsay and Bryan) published on The Knot! Congrats Kori!

The ceremony took place at Bell Gable Chapel in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with the reception held at the UARK Ballroom! Flowers by Flora and cake from Rick's Bakery!

Sarah Bridal...

Just got this email from Sarah who was married on October 18:

I just want to say "WOW!" The pictures in your gallery of our wedding are absolutely amazing. And as I have instructed friends and family to also take a peek, the overall response is great. I cannot wait to see all the pictures from the special day and night.

I also would like to say thank you. You were wonderful to work with and you did a really great job of capturing all those posed pictures with quickness and ease. (I think we took all post wedding pictures and made it to the reception in record time!) I have really enjoyed getting to know you over the past year and I will definitely recommend you to anyone I know getting married.

Thanks again for capturing our wedding day. I look forward to more pictures to come!

Here are a few photos from her bridal session:

Published!

A big thanks to At Home in Arkansas magazine for publishing Lauren and Stuart's wedding in their "Weddings in Arkansas" Fall issue. Lauren and Stuart's wedding was amazing to photograph and it looks great in print too! Several other magazines including The Knot wanted to publish this wedding also, but At Home beat them all to it!

Saturday Shoot Day - October 25th

Very rarely are we available for portrait sessions on Saturdays due to our intense wedding photography schedule, however we have set aside Saturday, October 25 as a "shoot day." So if you are needing engagement or bridal pictures, and you are only free on a Saturday, we are available on the 25th of October. There are just a few spots left, so send us an email to get booked!

Baby Norah

Norah is 3 weeks old this week. She's growing well and doing great. She sleeps about 20 hours a day and eats the rest of the time. What a life! Mom is doing great too! Kori photographed a wedding last weekend in Oklahoma City and is shooting a wedding today at the awesome Marlsgate Plantation near Little Rock, Arkansas.

Here's the latest pictures of our little angel!

Big news for us!

We got the word today from Norah's Neonatologist that if all goes well over the next couple of days, that we might be able to take her home on Thursday! We can't wait! Then on Friday, Kori and I are heading out to Oklahoma City to photograph a wedding and then I'll be driving from there to Paris (Arkansas) for another wedding! It's a big weekend all around, and we can't wait!

Ashley Married John!

We've been crazy busy booking weddings, shoots, etc. and although we haven't finished Ashley and John's wedding gallery just yet, I am going through their pictures from Sept. 27 and am finding some favorites that I wanted to share with you! What a beautiful couple and a perfect wedding. The ceremony took place at Central United Methodist Church in Rogers, Arkansas and their reception was held at the Doubletree hotel.

Jason is headed off to Oklahoma City today to photograph a wedding Saturday for an awesome bride and groom that we booked about two years ago it seems! Have a great weekend everybody!

Snapshot from today...

Baby Norah is one week old today! She is finally out of the critical unit and into the NICU's less critical "outer-circle" which means we get a private room and can stay with her 24/7. Kori has gotten to nurse a couple of times and is loving that. We got to dress her today also (itzy bitzy from Bella Jack's).

Adrienne Loves Jonathan!

Took a break from the baby-having craziness on Friday to make some engagement pictures for Adrienne and Jonathan who are getting married next February!

Sunday, September 28

As of Sunday night Kori was discharged as a patient from Willow Creek. They are letting us keep our hospital room while Norah is in the NICU so we can stay at the hospital and be close to Norah. She should be in there for another 2-3 weeks. I brought Kori home for a little while today, and it was very sad coming home without our baby, but we know that she is in good hands and will be released from the hospital when the time is right.

Norah has a feeding tube going into her nose and down to her stomach since she is too young to eat on her own, but her nurse took out the tubes for a little while on Sunday and Kori was able to capture these pictures. Due to the lighting of the room she is in her hair looks red in these pictures, but its actually dark black.

First hold...

Kori was allowed to hold our baby today for 30 minutes. It was a very special time!

Friday with Norah

Norah is off the ventilator and breathing on her own. Go Norah!

Baby Norah is here!!!

Jason here... Kori had an emergency C-Section today and Norah was born at 4:15 this afternoon. It was a scary time for sure. Kori is fine or as far as recovering from painful emergency surgery can be. Norah is in the NICU and will be there for a few weeks we are told. She is on a respirator right now but should be off of it in a day or so if she can tolerate breathing on her own. Kori will get to see the baby tomorrow.

We can't wait to have her at home and return to normal. This weekends wedding will be a nice break for me! Thanks for all the prayers! We will keep you updated.

I wasn't allowed in the surgery room but I did sneak a picture through a small window.

Norah's first two pictures!

About 8:30 tonight I got to go into the NICU and see our little Norah! She is 4 pounds and 11 ounces and will be on a ventilator for another day or so. Kori hasn't been able to see her yet since she is still recovering from the C-Section, but hopefully will get to on Saturday.

We think she's beautiful, as all parents do :-)

Belly Show!

I had some time to put together a little slide show of maternity pictures we've made of Kori - prior to checking into the hospital! Click on the picture to see the show!

Stuck....

Just wanted to update you on our life, pregnancy, and why we haven't blogged lately! Kori's water broke last Wednesday and she was admitted into the hospital. They put her on some medications to stop her labor so they would have time to inject her with steroids that would help the baby's lungs develop, since Kori was only 31 weeks at the time. Last Friday, they took her off the meds and told her it would be OK to go ahead and go into labor and have the baby. We figured we would have had our baby by Friday night or Saturday at the latest. But... she never did! Her body just didn't go into labor, and the doctors won't induce her since right now she is only at 32 weeks. They will induce her at 34 weeks if she is still pregnant then, but that's a full two weeks away!

We have already been sitting in her hospital room for 8 full days now! I have been staying there with Kori the whole time and sleeping on a cot in her room. I moved my iMac and iBook over there so I can answer emails, process print orders, send out contracts, etc. My brother and Kori's sister loaned us some DVDs and games, so we have a few things to keep us busy. All of you that know Kori know that she doesn't exactly sit still well, but she's making it through just fine so far! The doctors and nurses have all been very helpful and supportive, and we have greatly appreciated all the visits, cards, flowers, and gifts she has already gotten, even before we announced our situation here!

Anyways, the doctors think she could go into labor at any time. Because of that, Kori has to stay put in the hospital (Willow Creek) until she has the baby, and also has to stay there because she is at risk for infection since she has been lying there 3cm dilated for more than a week! When the baby is finally born, she will likely spend a couple of weeks in the NICU (intensive care unit for babies). But they have told us that for every day Norah is still in her belly at this point, that is two days that she will not have to be in the NICU. That helps keep it in perspective for us, because even though waiting here is a little frustrating, we know that it's all for a good reason. So, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers! And, be looking for baby pictures any day now!

Bridal Fair, September 28, Northwest Arkansas

We'll be there and hope to meet you there!

Photographing a birth...

From time to time we are asked to document the birth of a baby and it is always an honor to be asked to do this. Here is a recent favorite; the proud new daddy took a picture of his baby girl in the nursery just a few minutes after birth, then showed me the picture he took with his iPhone:

Wedding in the Garden

Thanks to the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks for having our sister company Bliss! take part in their annual "Wedding in the Garden" bridal fair on Sunday, September 7. It was a glorious day and our associate photographers got to meet a lot of really great brides as well as other local wedding professionals.
